Suburban and metropolitan landscapes are dynamic and often marked by diverse conflicts. This workshop aims to critically examine their complex and sometimes contradictory development while presenting and discussing current research approaches and findings. Through a transdisciplinary dialogue among scientists, planners, and other landscape actors, the workshop will identify key areas for further research. Discussions will be framed around three overarching themes:
- Development trends and qualities of suburban and metropolitan landscapes
- Planning, policy, and governance
- Narratives, practices, subjectivities and materialities.
The German Landscape Research Network serves as a platform for exchange between researchers from universities and scientific institutions and practitioners from administration, planning offices, civil society organisations, and other areas of landscape practice. Early-career researchers and students are particularly encouraged to participate.
