The Landscape Research Group and the Bartlett School of Architecture MA/MLA Landscape Architecture are excited to announce Landscape Futures in the Twenty-First Century: Landscape Leaders in an Intergenerational Dialogue, a hybrid event that will take place on Thursday 5th December 2024, at 17:00 GMT. Attendance can be both in person at 77 Wicklow Street, London and via Zoom.

This timely event will explore how current global crises, including climate change, economic challenges, energy shifts, and social transformations, are leaving a profound and complex imprint on landscapes across the world. These crises are rapidly altering spatial organisation and management, putting landscapes under pressure from rapid land-use changes, extractive activities, and other forces that threaten public health, well-being, and the environment. However, these challenges also provide opportunities to reimagine landscape stewardship and care in ways that could ensure a more sustainable future.

This event will bring together landscape experts from various disciplines and generations to exchange perspectives on the evolving role of landscape in human lives and decision-making. Panellists will discuss the impact of globalisation, technological advances, and mobility on landscapes, as well as the role of landscape in addressing critical issues like food security, cultural heritage, and energy production. The dialogue will explore how landscapes can help mitigate the effects of these interconnected crises and what opportunities exist to better manage and protect our shared spaces for the well-being of local communities and broader ecosystems.

The panel, moderated by LRG’s newly appointed Chair, Professor Theano S. Terkenli, aims to foster interdisciplinary and international perspectives on landscape research, with a focus on both theoretical insights and practical solutions. Details of the distinguished scholars on our panel are shown below:

Sadly, due to sickness, Professor Tersea Pinto Correia will no longer be able to join the panel.

Attendees can expect a dynamic discussion, with panellists responding to key questions about the future of landscape research and the role of the LRG in addressing the pressing challenges of the 21st century.
