The staff, trustees, members and partners of the Landscape Research Group (LRG) are deeply saddened by the war in Ukraine. We condemn the breach of international law, the terrible loss of life for both Ukrainian and Russian people and the decimation of homes and places that were once much loved.

We recognise, however, the power of research and education to transform people’s lives. We are a global network that strives to bring together and support interdisciplinary communities of interest across national borders. We know that authors prepare their work in a personal capacity rather than on behalf of governments. We therefore continue to encourage scholars to have their voices heard wherever they may live and work.

We will continue our usual practice of ‘care’ and ‘fair play’ in working with colleagues in their intellectual pursuits without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors. The free flow of ideas should continue to make our world a much better place.
