The German-speaking Landscape Research Working Group, Arbeitskreis Landschaftsforschung, is a model network funded by the Landscape Research Group. This dynamic group spans Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and beyond, bringing together landscape researchers and practitioners since 2019. Their mission? To strengthen ties within the research community, promote the exchange of ideas and methods, and host impactful events that can lead to collaborative publications.
One such event took place last month, titled Strategies, Processes, and Actors of Climate Change. Held on October 10th and 11th 2024, at the Detmold School of Design, Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences, this workshop convened experts to discuss innovative climate adaptation and mitigation strategies within spatial planning and design.
Key discussions underscored the urgent need for accelerated political action to meet the 2030 climate goals, as highlighted in the latest IPCC report. Experts emphasised the importance of breaking entrenched routines, employing cutting-edge digital tools for climate modelling, developing nature-based solutions for flood prevention, and fostering public engagement through participatory approaches.
The workshop concluded with a strong call for interdisciplinary cooperation and active knowledge exchange between academia and practice. Looking ahead, the next workshop is scheduled for autumn 2025. Stay tuned for more details in LRG’s newsletter and on landschaftsforschung.de.
